Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia Awarded the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane
In a moment of national pride and recognition, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s most esteemed entrepreneurs and philanthropists, has been awarded the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda, during the 39th NRM/A Victory Day Anniversary.
This prestigious honor, conferred in accordance with the National Honours and Awards Act (2001, as Amended), is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service in both public and private sectors.
Dr. Ruparelia’s lifelong contributions to Uganda’s economic growth and social development epitomize the values celebrated by this award. Born in Kampala on January 17, 1956, Dr. Ruparelia’s journey to success is an inspiring story of resilience and vision.
With modest capital, he founded the Ruparelia Group, a conglomerate that now spans real estate, financial services, education, hospitality, agriculture, and media. The Group has not only shaped the economic landscape of Uganda but also employs over 8,000 Ugandans and remains one of the country’s leading taxpayers.
Beyond business, Dr. Ruparelia has made an indelible mark through philanthropy. As Chairman of the Ruparelia Foundation, he has championed initiatives in healthcare, education, wildlife conservation, and poverty alleviation.
This is not the first time Dr. Ruparelia’s contributions have been recognized. He previously received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Uganda Pentecostal University and the Golden Jubilee Independence Medal for his exceptional investment services.
