President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr. Rosemary Kusaba Byanyima as the substantive Executive Director of Mulago National Referral Hospital, succeeding Dr. Baterana Byaruhanga. Dr. Byanyima’s appointment follows a recommendation from the Health Service Commission as the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare leadership in Uganda.
Dr. Byanyima brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as the deputy director of the hospital. As a seasoned consultant radiologist, she has demonstrated a strong dedication to patient care and operational efficiency. Her leadership has been marked by initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of care and services provided by Mulago National Referral Hospital.
In addition to her medical expertise, Dr. Byanyima holds an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI). This combination of medical and business acumen positions her well to lead Mulago Hospital effectively and drive positive change within the institution.
Dr. Byanyima’s appointment comes at a critical time for Mulago Hospital, as it continues to play a pivotal role in Uganda’s healthcare system. Her leadership is expected to further elevate the hospital’s reputation as a center of excellence in medical care and service delivery.
