Dr Besigye weighs in on strained Uganda-Rwanda relations
Former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has said that the brewing trouble between Uganda and Rwanda is as a result of President Paul Kagame refusing to listen to his Ugandan counterpart.
According to Dr Besigye, Rwanda’s Kagame was trained and promoted by Uganda’s president Museveni. Besigye says that as a result, Museveni expected Kagame to always listen to him and go by what he tells him.
Besigye gives an example of the Congo war that led to the overthrow of former president Mobutu Sese Seko
“He defied Museveni especially in the Congo war that overthrew Mobutu. Rwanda alone fought and won that war and this angered Museveni,” said Dr Besigye in an interview on a YouTube channel – Kampala Diaries.
He also noted that Rwanda, despite their challenges, the have developed at a faster rate compared to Uganda.
The Ugandan opposition leader also says the bad blood between the two counties involves matters of Uganda frustrating Rwanda’s security operations although he Besigye admits he doesn’t have evidence about the security issues.
