Dorothy Kisaka and Co-accused Granted Bail

The former Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Dorothy Kisaka, and her co-accused Directors David Luyimbazi, and Dr. Daniel Okello,  have been granted bail by the Kasangati Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The trio face charges including 34 counts of manslaughter, alternative charges of causing death by reckless or negligent acts and additional charges of causing harm through similar negligence,  in relation to the Kiteezi landfill tragedy that claimed 35 lives and injured 21 others.

The bail application hearing took place today, November 4, 2024, after the defense team filed a formal application for bail.

The prosecution alleges that the former KCCA officials neglected their duties, leading to the tragic collapse of the Kiteezi landfill on August 10, 2024. The charges against them include 34 counts of manslaughter, alternative charges of causing death by reckless or negligent acts, and additional charges of causing harm through similar negligence.

President Yoweri Museveni had earlier directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the trio following their dismissal from their positions at KCCA.

The granting of bail to the former KCCA officials has raised questions about the potential outcome of the trial and the implications for accountability in public service.
