Dokolo Polls: Museveni Leads Campaign for NRM Candidate Ahead of By-Election
Today, President Museveni, also the National Resistance Movement Party national Chairperson, is set to visit Dokolo to rally support for Janet Adong, the party’s candidate in the district woman Parliamentary by-election.
As per Emmanuel Dombo, the NRM’s director of communications, two rallies are planned for this final day of campaigning before Thursday’s by-election.
The by-election is to fill the seat left vacant by the passing of Cecilia Ogwal on January 18th. The candidates include Rosemary Austin Alwoc Ogwal (FDC), Janet Rose Adongo Elau (NRM), Sarah Aguti (UPC), and Harriet (NUP), along with independents Esther Akullo Obot, Anna Grace Lalam, and Rebecca Arao.
Dokolo District Police Commander, Patience Baganzi, has called for adherence to EC guidelines, particularly regarding processions, assigning officers to manage complaints and prevention of electoral violence.
Other prominent figures from various political parties are also in Dokolo, wrapping up their campaign efforts. Robert Kyagulanyi, the leader of the National Unity Platform was present over the weekend to show support for Harriet Ageno. The Forum for Democratic Change, led by party president Patrick Amuriat, has been active in the district since last week in support of Dr. Rose Mary Alwoc.
UPC president Jimmy Akena, who is backing Sarah Aguti, has pledged to stay until the final vote is tallied.
