Dokolo District By-Election Campaigns Kick Off today
The Electoral Commission concluded the nomination exercise for the Dokolo District Women Representative by-election, with a total of seven candidates nominated to potentially replace Cecilia Ogwal.
According to the Returning Officer, Dokolo Ngobi Erikwaine, the two-day exercise proceeded peacefully, with candidates adhering to the set rules. Expectations are for the same harmony and peace to prevail during the upcoming campaigns, which commenced today.
The candidates include Rosemary Austin Alwoc Ogwal from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Janet Rose Adongo Elau from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Sarah Aguti from Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), and Harriet from the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Additionally, Esther Akullo Obot, Anna Grace Lalam, and Rebecca Arao are all independent candidates.
Patience Baganzi, Dokolo District Police Commander, emphasized that all candidates must comply with EC guidelines, particularly regarding processions. She added that various officers have been assigned distinct roles to address any complaints and prevent electoral violence.
As per the EC’s roadmap, nominated candidates for the Parliamentary By-Election will partake in a 7-day campaign period from Thursday, March 14th to Wednesday, March 20th, 2024.
Polling and tallying of results for the parliamentary, directly elected councilor, and woman councilor positions in one of the local governments will occur on Thursday, March 21.
Preceding this, on March 18, the EC will conduct elections for special interest groups in four sub-county local governments of Bata, Dokolo Kwera, and Bata town council.
