Ugandan doctors, through their umbrella body Uganda Medical Association (UMA) have heaped praise on the government of Uganda after a Cabinet resolution to increase their salaries by 40%.

This follows a special cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe at the weekend in which President Yoweri Museveni, directed the ministry of public service to fast track the salary increment of scientists and lecturers in the 2018/2019 budget and look into the salaries of other public servants in the subsequent national budgets.

The UMA president Dr Ekwaro Obuko applauded the government for listening to their plight, calling upon fellow doctors to avoid absenteeism. This was at a press conference in Mulago on Wednesday.

While commissioning the new Mulago Women Specialized Hospital, the president hinted on the increment of salaries for the docotrs.
The President said that all scientists in Uganda must have salary increase because “they are very few. In this I don’t mean doctors I mean even science teachers from primary levels.”
