Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Champions Golf Tourism in Kabale
The annual Golf Open at Kabale Sports Club was inaugurated by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, who underscored the untapped potential of golf tourism in Uganda.
Addressing the challenges faced by the country’s tourism sector during the event, RT Hon. Thomas Tayebwa emphasized the imperative to draw affluent tourists through golf. He pointed out, “Uganda is presently drawing tourists who are not big spenders. We need to redirect our focus and attract wealthier tourists through the captivating sport of golf.”
Highlighting the significance of golf in tourism, Tayebwa expressed optimism regarding the positive impact a strengthened golf community could have on Uganda’s economic landscape. He encouraged golfers to actively recruit new members, fostering sustainability for both the clubs and promoting tourism in the region.
Assuring government support, Tayebwa stated, “The government is dedicated to revitalizing golf clubs, provided there is transparency in their operations.” As a token of this commitment, he pledged 10 million Ugandan shillings for the revitalization of Kabale Sports Club.
In a final rallying cry, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa urged the golfing community to seize the opportunity, declaring, “Let’s revive the glory of golf in Kigezi and make it a magnet for high-end tourists, contributing significantly to Uganda’s economic growth.”
