Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Urges Government To Block Porn Sites
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has called on the government to block pornography sites in Uganda in order to restore moral sanity.
The Deputy Speaker made the call on Wednesday during his address to high-level policymakers’ engagement organized by the AfriChild Centre, Child Fund International Uganda Country Office in partnership with The Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children at Sheraton Hotel Kampala.
Tayebwa stated that children have easy access to these sites with the internet and blocking will protect children from immoral content.
He urged the Minister of Youth and Children, Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, to push for the closure of these sites iby borrowing a leaf from Muslim countries that have successfully implemented measures to block access to pornographic sites for underage individuals.
Tayebwa also urged parents to embrace the African belief that “it takes a village to raise a child.”
Article 34 (4) of the Constitution of Uganda protects children from social or economic exploitation, ensuring they are not engaged in hazardous work that interferes with their education or compromises their health.
