Deputy CJ Buteera Calls For Proactive Approach to Judicial Challenges
Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, presiding over the inaugural meeting of the Case Management Committee at the Court of Appeal Conference Hall, emphasized the role of the Committee in shaping the future of judicial processes.
He revealed the need for the Committee to proactively address challenges hindering effective justice delivery and to devise strategies for their resolution.
In his opening remarks, DCJ Buteera emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in tackling the complexities of the legal system. He encouraged the Committee members to leverage their diverse expertise to develop comprehensive solutions that enhance efficiency and accessibility within the judiciary.
He commended the efforts of the Committee thus far and expressed optimism about its potential to drive positive change within the judiciary. He reiterated the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice for all citizens.
DCJ Buteera highlighted the significance of the meeting as a platform for brainstorming and strategic planning. He called on the Committee to develop a robust work plan that addresses key areas such as case backlog clearance, alternative dispute resolution, and performance enhancement strategies.
HW Sarah Langa Siu, serving as the Secretary of the Committee, provided valuable insights into its organizational structure and objectives. She outlined the Committee’s mandate to study justice delivery challenges, conduct research, and propose reforms aimed at improving judicial processes.
In attendance were esteemed judicial officers, including Principal Judge Dr. Flavian Zeija, and representatives from key stakeholders such as the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, and President of the Uganda Law Society, Bernard Oundo. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit driving the Committee’s efforts.
The Committee’s establishment under The Administration of the Judiciary (Establishment of Committees) Regulations, 2023, reflects a commitment to modernizing and strengthening the judiciary’s capacity to meet evolving legal needs. With a focus on promoting communication, cooperation, and coordination among justice service stakeholders, the Committee is poised to play a transformative role in advancing access to justice and upholding the rule of law in Uganda.
