Defense Secretary, 3 Others Arrested For Robbing Locals With Toy Pistol
Police in Kampala have arrested four suspects, including a local defense chairman, for allegedly stealing from locals in Nateete Factory Zone, Rubaga Division.
The suspects including; Kayondo Isaac the area defense secretary for Zone 8 in Lubaga Division, Bukenya Godfrey, Kavuma Sam, and Madana Douglas, were captured at 3:00 AM by security operatives who laid a trap for them, after receiving a distress call from locals about theft in the area.
The police received information about a planned robbery along Mackay Road and set up an ambush to catch the perpetrators.
Patrick Onyango, KMP, spokesman says the suspects targeted a home in Nateete Factory Zone, Rubaga Division. He reveals that they climbed a tree adjacent to the perimeter wall, jumped over it, and accessed the house by removing roofing tiles and opening the door from inside. Despite the house being equipped with a camera system, the thugs managed to disarm it by cutting the wires.
He further explains that once inside, six of the robbers tied up the victims and demanded money while wielding pangas and a toy pistol. However, one of the victims managed to free himself and raised an alarm, causing the suspects to flee. The police ambush successfully trapped four of them.
According to Onyango, police recovered various weapons used by the suspects, including two new pangas, a pair of pliers, two ropes, a black cap, a hand knife, a toy pistol, and master keys. The stolen items included a flat-screen TV, two decoders, mobile phones, a DVD player, a laptop bag, and a radio.
He says all suspects are currently detained at Nateete Police Station and have been charged with aggravated robbery.
