Defectors Flock to NRM as SG Todwong Visits Nwoya
The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has stressed the importance of leadership that prioritizes the needs and welfare of the people.
Speaking at the 53rd birthday celebration of devoted NRM cadre Mrs. Mary Adokorach, Todwong stressed that true leadership is about loving and caring for the people.
Todwong declared, “A leader must think for and love the people.” “A leader who doesn’t go back to the people isn’t in leadership for the people but for selfish gains.” He emphasized that the district of Nwoya was established for the sake of its people, not simply its elites
Todwong asked the people to watch out for their leaders and hold them responsible.
“It’s time to consider a change in leadership if, after five years of being led, your life doesn’t change and your leader’s life is getting better,” he said
Hundreds of followers of opposition parties, such as the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), defected to the NRM at the event.
The NRM, which Todwong described as the only dependable and accommodating political party with a clear goal for improving Ugandans’ lives, is the appropriate decision, he assured the new members.
“You are now part of a party that values your potential,” Todwong assured the defectors,
He also expressed his gratitude to the Ugandan people for placing their trust in President Museveni, noting that “the future of the NRM is very bright. Align your future with that of the NRM.”
Todwong urged leaders to prioritize community development and actively support NRM government initiatives aimed at uplifting the general populace.
“If we as leaders can foster a love for community development, we won’t need to admire other areas but will instead improve our own,” he stated.
Lt. Gen. Charles Otema, Commander of the Reserve Force in the UPDF, also spoke at the event. He urged for a united front against corruption, especially at the local government level, and stressed the significance of upgrading agriculture to optimize production.
“Service delivery is impacted by corruption, and the wanainchi bear the brunt of this. Otema pleaded, “Report all corrupt officers so that they are dealt with.” he said
In response to the polarizing nature of contemporary politics, Mrs. Mary Adokorach urged unity within the NRM.
“We must unite against the politics of intrigue that are dividing our party,” she stated
