CSPOC Conference Takes Shape With Arrival of Special Guest, EALA Speaker
The 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers (CSPOC) kicks off from January 4th to 6th, 2024 at the Munyonyo Speke Resort, with President Museveni officially opening the event.
The initial batch of Speakers and Presiding Officers touched down in the country on January 1st, with additional delegates arriving on January 2nd and 3rd, 2024. A total of 43 delegations have confirmed their attendance, marking an impressive international turnout for this prominent assembly.
Among those who have already graced Kampala with their presence are Rt. Hon Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Joseph Ntakirutimana, who is attending the conference as the host’s special guest in line with CSPOC rules. Speakers from Kenya, Grenada, Ghana, Maldives, Tonga, Malaysia, Mauritius, Guyana, among others.
Speaker Anitah Among has this afternoon received the Rt. Hon Dr Tulia Ackson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania. Among was joined by her colleague, Rt. Hon Jemma Nunu Kumba from South Sudan.
In a move toward sustainable practices, the conference organizers have planned to utilize KIIRA Kayoola EV buses for transportation, emphasizing their commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
Delegates are scheduled to visit various cultural and educational landmarks, including Namugongo Martyrs Shrines, Makerere University, and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWEC).
The Commonwealth Speakers Conference is poised to delve into crucial global issues, including discussions on climate change, peace, and security.
Speaker Anita Among has encouraged both citizens and visitors to partake in the shared experience, emphasizing the significance of this event as a testament to Uganda’s global standing and its commitment to fostering mutual respect and shared interests on the international stage.
