The Ministry of Health last evening confirmed three more COVID19 cases bringing to 33, the number of coronavirus patients in Uganda.

“Out of 203 samples that were tested today (Sunday), 3 were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of cases in Uganda to 33,” said the Health Minister, Dr. Ruth Aceng on Sunday evening.

She urged Ugandans to adhere to the prevention guidelines issued by the Ministry to interrupt the spread of the virus.

Museveni speaks out

Following the confirmation by the Ministry of Health, President Yoweri Museveni issued a statement, expressing confidence in the country’s readiness to handle the cases.

“Countrymen, Countrywomen and the Bazukulu. The latest about the Covid-19 situation in our country is that today (Sunday), 206 individuals, mainly returnees from the Gulf and Europe, were tested and only 3 tested positive. All these have been in institutional quarantine.

Two of these are wife and daughter of the man from Masaka who was among the first nine confirmed cases. On his return from Dubai, he went home to his family. After the first confirmed case, his community advised him to go for check up where he tested positive.

Therefore, his wife and daughter were his closest contacts and were quarantined in Entebbe when their husband/ father tested positive.

The third person is a 15-year-old teenager who returned from school in the United Kingdom on March 21st. He was under institutional quarantine where he developed symptoms and tested positive.

I urge you all to observe the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health and myself to ensure we break the spread of this virus.”

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services in the Health Ministry, says all confirmed cases are stable and receiving treatment at four health facilities.

“All confirmed cases are stable at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, Adjumani General Hospital and Hooks hospital,” he said.

Adding that, “Contrary to various social media posts, Uganda has not registered a COVID-19 death.” There is a reported increase of COVID-19 cases worldwide.
