Covid-19: Museveni Announces Full Reopening of Economy

President Yoweri Museveni has announced the full reopening of the economy with schools set to reopen on January 10, 2022 while the entertainment industry will open on January 24.

While delivering his end of year message, the president said that with vaccines in government stores, it is time to fully reopen the economy albeit in a staggered manner.

Below are some of the dates and conditions set for the sectors that have been under lockdown for close to two years.

-Transport sector that has been operating at 50% will now be open at 100% but with sops ofcourse. Full vaccination.
-Cinema halls and sports events will be opened with Sops
-Schools will open on 10th January with sops
-Bars and social events 2weeks after 10th January.

-Curfew to be lifted two weeks Jan 24, after schools reopening.

-However, Boda boda will continue to observe curfew guidelines that have been in place.

Meanwhile the president noted that some of these measures may be reversed if COVID-19 high dependency and ICU bed occupancy exceeds 50% and if the daily rate of the hospitalization of critically ill patients is sustained at 30 per day for 5 days in 2 or more COVID units.
