Covid-19 Lockdown: Government Announces Plans to Supply Food to the Vulnerable
The Prime Minister of Uganda Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has announced that starting Saturday, 4, April, government will provide relief to 1.5m people in Wakiso and Kampala.
Dr Rugunda says the relief items will be distributed at the LC1 level with each person getting 6kgs of maize flour, 3kgs of beans. Breastfeeding mothers and the sick will receive 2kgs of powdered milk & 2kgs of sugar.
The Prime Minister said that the relief committee will be chaired by Musa Ecweru, the state Minister for Disaster Preparedness. He added that the distribution process will be supervised by security personnel to enforce the social distancing guidelines issued by the ministry of health and the president of the Republic of Uganda.
This is the latest government intervention towards the fight against COVID19 following the presidential directive that declared total lockdown that started on Tuesday.
President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday announced that the government will be distributing relief to Kampala based people especially the ‘hand-to-mouth type whose livelihood has been affected by the lockdown.
