Court Of Appeal Justice Kakuru Dies At 65

Court of Appeal Justice Kenneth Kakuru has on Tuesday morning succumbed to a long battle with cancer at the Agha khan hospital in Nairobi.

Kakuru has been admitted at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi battling stage four prostate cancer. His death was announced by the Judiciary Spokesperson Jameson Karemani.

 

He was appointed a justice of the Court of Appeal in 2013. In 2021, he applied to retire seven years earlier citing a health condition.

One of his most memorable cases is when he differed to remove lower and upper age limits for presidential and local government candidates .Justice Kakuru was the only one of five judges to rule that the amendment of the Constitution in 2017 was unconstitutional.

Justice Kakuru was born to Reverend Eliakim Kamujanduzi, a renowned elder and senior educationist in Uganda in 1958.

He attended local schools for primary and secondary education.

He studied law at Makerere University and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.

Later he graduated with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree.

He obtained a diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, in Kampala.

He also held a Master of Arts degree in Education Policy Planning and Development, from Kyambogo University.
