Court Further Remands Man For Damaging President Museveni’s Portrait

The Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court has remanded a naughty man to jail for malicious damage of a portrait of the president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The accused is Robert Mugabi,30,  a Boda boda Rider and a resident of of Nankuwadde Bulenga in Wakiso District.

Mugabe appeared on Monday morning  before the Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate, Siena Owomugisha and was further remanded to Luzira prison until November 30th when his case comes up for trial.

Court heard that on November 3rd, 2022 while at the UBC building in Kampala Central Division, Mugabi willingly and unlawfully damaged an A2 framed photo of General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda.

The damaged photo that was property of one Moses Daki, a dealer in photo frames is valued at  Shillings 300,000.

The Prosecution led by State Attorney Lydia Nakato told the Court that investigations into the case are complete and asked the court to set a trial date.

Mugabe pleaded not guility to the matter and was the sent him back to Luzira prison until November 30th.

According to the Penal Code Act of Uganda, any person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property commits an offense and is liable to imprisonment of five years if found guilty.
