CoU Secures Land Title for Church House After Repaying UGX62B Loan
In a significant milestone, the Church of Uganda has received the land title for the Church House from Equity Bank, following the full repayment of the 62 billion shillings loan used to build the facility. The Church had secured the loan from Equity Bank to fund the construction project.
The land title was officially handed over to Archbishop Dr. Samuel Kazimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda by Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde, Executive Director of Public Sector and Social Investments at Equity Bank. The ceremony took place during the 27th Provincial Assembly at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, which is being held from August 21st to 22nd, 2024.
The Assembly, chaired by Archbishop Kazimba, has brought together hundreds of church leaders from across the country under the theme “Imitating God’s Goodness in Doing Good” (Galatians 6:9).
During the official opening ceremony of the Assembly on Wednesday, the chief guest John Musinguzi Rujoki, Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) urged church leaders to promote tax education and awareness, highlighting the church’s influential role in encouraging the public to pay taxes.
As the supreme governing body of the Church of Uganda, the Provincial Assembly convenes every two years to deliberate on critical church matters and provide strategic direction for its development and self-sustainability. The assembly comprises delegates from each of the 39 dioceses, representatives from partner organizations, and invited guests.
