Congolese student found dead in rental after missing lectures for days

The deceased is Kahumo Christian, 23, a second year student of software engineering at Sapali Institute of Technology

Police at Entebbe have launched investigations into circumstances under which a Congolese student died in his rental room.

The deceased is Kahumo Christian, 23, a second year student of software engineering at Sapali Institute of Technology and a a resident of Bugiri-Bukasa village, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District

He was found lying dead by a fellow student on Thursday after noticing the deceased was absent from lectures for two days.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson says the deceased was found with no marks on his body, indicating he was not attacked physically .

Owoyesigyire says the student who found him (names withheld) had tried calling Kahumo’s mobile phone number several times to no avail, as they were all switched off.

The deceased was reportedly found lying on his bed dead, with no signs of physical attack.

Owoyesigyire says statements have been taken on the incident as investigations into the sudden death of Kahumo. He says the body was picked by police and conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for post mortem.

This incident comes moments after police arrested National Unity Platform members in connection to the stabbing of a student at Makerere University.

Police in Kampala confirmed the arrest of Kassada County MP Hon. Kabuye Frank over the death of a student killed during guild campaigns.

The deceased Michael Betungura Bewatte, a law student at Uganda Christian University -UCU, and resident of Kikoni, Makerere, died during campaigns on Thursday at the university Rugby Grounds where the NUP candidate was holding his last rally.

Owoyesigyire, says Hon Kabuye was leading a team from the National Unity Platform party, when the deceased was stabbed.

Owoyesigyire says Police arrived at the scene and tried to disperse the crowds, however, it was already late for the deceased as  blood stains believed to be his were found  at Nsibirwa Hall where he hid after the scuffle that led to his stabbing.
