CDF Cuts Short Algeria Tour as his Delegation Tours Key Algerian Military Installations.
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba cut his trip short due to other State duties that required his presence in Kampala. Gen. Muhoozi left Algeria for Kampala leaving behind his delegation to continue with the rest of the engagements in Algeria.
Maj. Gen. Birungi apologized to the hosts for Gen. Kainerugaba’s absence, explaining that the Chief of Defence Forces had to cut his trip short due to other State duties that required his presence in Kampala. Despite this, the Ugandan delegation continues to receive a warm reception and engage in cordial discussions.
The delegation toured several key Algerian military installations on Wednesday with the view of identifying areas of cooperation. The installations included the Higher Warfare College, Staff and Command School, and the Clothing and Bedding establishment responsible for military manufacturing.
During the tours, Maj. Gen. Birungi and his colleagues, who included Maj. Gen. Bob Ogiki, the Joint Chief of Staff Policy and Strategy, and Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi, the Commander of the 5th Division Infantry, interacted with top Algerian Generals, exploring potential areas of cooperation and collaboration with the Algerian military, which is ranked among the strongest in Africa.
The tours to the three military installations followed Gen Kainerugaba’s Tuesday meeting with his Algerian counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of Algeria’s People’s National Army. They discussed the upcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UPDF and the Algerian military.
