Uganda has managed to keep COVID-19 samples from the community negative, however, it is a different story at the common border entry points.
On Saturday night, the Ministry of Health reported that 24 new cases of the virus had been confirmed in the country.
“Today, May 16, 2020, 24 new COVID-19 cases confirmed from 2,044 samples of truck drivers,” the ministry announced in a tweet.
A day earlier, 43 truck drivers booked themselves onto the growing list of COVID-19 positive cases in Uganda.
“This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 227 in Uganda. The new cases breakdown: Elegu: 3 Ugandans, 2 Kenyans Mutukula: 6 Tanzanians, 1 Ugandan Malaba: 12 Kenyans,” the ministry said.
“All 554 community samples have tested negative for COVID-19. Total samples tested today: 2,044. Out of these, 115 samples were tested at Mutukula while 1,375 tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute.”
According to the ministry, the total COVID-19 recoveries stand at 63 while no death related to COVID-19 has been recorded.
