Bwongyera Girls School Raises Over Ugx 160 Million for Multipurpose Hall Construction

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who contributed Ugx 80 million while Hon Nabbanja gave the school Ugx 10 million.

Over Ugx 160 million was raised in cash and pledges, at Bwongyera Girls Senior Secondary School in Ntungamo District during a Thanksgiving Ceremony to celebrate 40 years anniversary aiming at the construction of a Multipuporse Hall.

The Event that took place at the School, was graced by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who contributed Ugx 80 million while Hon Nabbanja gave the school Ugx 10 million.

Bwongyera Girls Secondary School Headmistress Katushabe Grace said that the Thanksgiving was being held under the theme, “Consolidatong the Girl Child Education for Sustainable Development” and Ugx 500 million was needed for the completion of the Multipuporse Block.

Bwongyera Girls Secondary School started in 1984 by the Church of Uganda and has seen many great Ugandan Women go through including the First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni who was a pupil there before it became a Secondary School.

According to Katushabe, the school currently has a total of 633 students from Senior One to Senior Six and due to increased enrollment, there is scarcity of accommodation both in classes and dormitories.

Speaking at the function, South Ankole Bishop Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe thanked the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for supporting education especially of the Girl Child and encouraged the current students to put more efforts in their career development and avoid getting distracted by bad practices.

Ntungamo District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Batta Kamateneti hailed government efforts for the existing infrastructure at the school, but asked the Ministry of Education to consider the construction of Home Economics block, science laboratory and dormitory.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inspected a science exhibition that was displayed by the students and hailed the school for such innovations that help the students to practice the skills they learn at the school.
