Businesswoman Arrested for Faking Kidnapping and Extortion Plot
Security operatives are holding a 32-year-old businesswoman for orchestrating her own kidnapping with the aim of extorting money from her relatives
Joint security operatives including the police, UPDF, CMI, UWA, and ISO, arrested one Kamongi Zainabu, a resident of Railway Cell in Kasese Municipality, for faking her own kidnap and providing misleading information to security officers.
According to Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, it all on February 8th, 2024, when Zainabu purportedly staged her abduction within the Queen Elizabeth National Park, near Kikorongo. She subsequently contacted her mother, alleging that she, along with another female victim, had been apprehended by a group of eight armed suspected thugs, who demanded ransom for their release.
However, Enanga says that investigations revealed these claims to be false, and Zainabu’s misuse of the National Park’s image drew significant attention to her actions.
He further explains that utilizing sophisticated surveillance techniques, the joint task team busted Zainabu from her hideout along Margherita Street within Kasese Municipality.
Enanga says Zainabu will appear in court to face charges related to providing false information to security and faking her own abduction.
