Businessman’s Heart-Wrenching Testimony in Daughter’s Kidnapping and Murder Trial
John Fitz Gerald Magara,58, the father to Susan Magara, appeared in court on Tuesday as a prosecution witness to testify in a case involving the kidnap and murder of his daughter.
Magara was brutally killed by her kidnappers in February 28 after her family paid a ransom of $200,000, approximately 700.000.000 million shillings to secure Susan’s release. The events happened on February 28, 2018.
Magara was worried about his family’s safety and asked not to reveal his location and picture in the media due to security concerns. He shared that when his daughter was kidnapped on Febuary, he traveled from Hoima to Kampala. The kidnappers asked for a $1 million ransom and claimed to have Susan.
After negotiations, the family agreed to pay $200,000 to secure Susan’s release. The kidnappers instructed John to drop the money at specific locations. However, the police intervened in two attempts. In the third attempt, the family decided not to involve the police and successfully delivered the money. Sadly, Susan was found dead later, and her body was identified by her father on February 28, 2018.
During the trial, audio recordings were played in court, revealing conversations with the kidnapper. The case revolves around the alleged kidnapping-for-ransom scheme involving the accused individuals. The prosecution argues that after receiving part of the ransom, the kidnappers killed Susan to avoid being caught. Patrick Kasaija, also known as Pato, is the main suspect. Nine individuals are on trial for Susan Magara’s case.
The accused are Abas Buvumbo, Yusuf Lubega, Hussein Wasswa, Muzamiru Ssali, Hassan Kato Miiro, Hajara Nakandi, Abubaker Kyewolwa, Mahad Kasalita, and Ismail Buckeye.
