New Jinja Nile Bridge Boosts Business Prospects
The bridge is the longest across a river in East Africa, at 8 meters high and 525 meters long
The business community is upbeat ahead of President Museveni’s visit on Wednesday when he is expected to commission the state of the art bridge.
The 525 metre bridge which was funded by a loan from Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is the second gateway to the Eastern part of Uganda after the Owen Falls Bridge which has exceeded its lifespan.
The bridge is expected to boost the economic growth of Uganda and the East African countries through enhancing smoothness of transportation on the Northern Corridor.
The Uganda National Roads Authority last evening tested the illumination of the new bridge ahead of its commissioning on Wednesday.
On the night of its commissioning, the bridge will be illuminated in black, yellow and red, the colors of the Uganda flag.
Meanwhile, no motorcycles will be allowed to cross the Nile through the newly constructed cable stayed bridge, according to Monica Azuba Ntege, the minister of works and transport.
The bridge is the longest across a river in East Africa, at 8 meters high and 525 meters long.
