Bus Rams Into Stationary Trailer At Kampala-Gulu Highway, 16 Confirmed Dead
A total of 16 people have been confirmed dead and scores injured following a nasty accident on Friday morning along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The accident occurred at 12 am at Adebe trading centre near corner Kamdin, when the Bus belonging to Roblyn bus company rammed into a stationary trailer registration number UAZ 381A/UBD 318C.
The deceased have been taken to Anyeke Health Center IV pending a postmortem as police identifies the bodies.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga police spokesperson says twelve people died immediately the accident happened while four others succumbed to injuries at Atapara hospital where they were rushed for treatment.
Okema could not verily establish the cause of the accident but says preliminary findings show that the trailer had parked wrongly on the road without warning.
On Tuesday this week, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety released a report showing that most accidents are caused by reckless driving and over speeding.
In the report, the country registered 104 crashes between December 30 and January 01 2023.
Traffic Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Faridah Nampiima, revealed that 28 of the accidents led to loss of lives.
“…49 were serious [accidents] and 27 were minor from December 30, 2022 to January 1. Out of 104 road crashes, we registered 149 victims, 35 died and 114 sustained serious injuries,” the statement read in part.
