Buluganya Sub-County Mudslides : 15 Dead, 113 People Unaccounted For
Police have revealed that the tragic mudslides in Buluganya Sub-County, have claimed at least 15 lives, with 15 injured individuals rescued and admitted to Buluganya Health Centre III for medical care.
The mudslides occurred on Wednesday at 9:30 pm buried several households and left many displaced and dead.
In a statement released by the Uganda Police Force on November 28th,2024, the disaster, triggered by heavy rains, has left 113 people unaccounted for, as rescue efforts intensify across the affected areas.
The mudslides have devastated five villages: Masugu, Namachele, Natola, Namagugu, and Tagalu. Search and rescue operations are being conducted by the Uganda Police, sister security agencies, and local community members. However, the operations face significant challenges due to impassable roads, which have hindered the movement of emergency vehicles, including ambulances and heavy machinery.
According to police, the Uganda Red Cross Society, alongside other emergency responders, is actively providing support to the affected families, offering aid and assistance amid the difficult conditions.
Efforts to locate the missing are ongoing, as emergency teams work tirelessly to overcome logistical barriers and reach those in need. Authorities have urged for calm and cooperation from the community as they continue rescue and recovery operations.
