Bugweri Chiefs Denounce NUP Deputy Spokesperson’s remarks on Speaker
Mufumbiro told Among straight to her face to leave Kadaga alone and concentrate on her duty as speaker than fighting Kadaga.
Elders in Bugweri have dissociated themselves from the remarks by Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the Deputy spokesperson of opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) towards the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among at the burial of Counsel Ramathan Waiswa the young brother of legislator Abdul Katundu.
In his message to the mourners, Mufumbiro told Among straight to her face to leave Kadaga alone and concentrate on her duty as speaker than fighting Kadaga.
“For us in Busoga, we are for Kadaga. If there are any issues, don’t accuse Kadaga. You beat her and rested her, don’t accuse her for things she hasn’t done, am just requesting you. Hon. Anita Among, don’t go back to Bukedi to abuse that woman because she’s resting, I wanted to say that because I am Waiswa Alex Mufumbiro, I speak my mind,” Mufumbiro said.
“Leave Kadaga alone, do your work, misuse the tax payer’s money, but leave maama Kadaga alone,” he added.
Now, in a letter to Among, signed by 30 ministers from the Obwa Menha Bwa Bugweri, the elders say Waiswa’s remarks are regrettable and that the chiefdom does not discriminate their visitors.
“We, the ministers,
abamagombolola (sub-county chiefs in cultural) and clan leaders of Bugweri Chiefdom, we take our sincere apology on the statement made by Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro during the burial of counsel Waiswa Ramathan. We would like to condemn it with the strongest terms possible,” reads the letter in part.
“As Obwa Menyha, we respect and embrace all leaders irrespective of their tribes, sex, Age among others,” it adds.
The leaders are now seeking to physically meet Among and deliver a face-to-face apology to the country’s number three.
They also thanked Speaker Among for pledging to contribute Shs100 million towards the construction of the Bugweri Muslim District headquarters and also honouring Bagweri by accepting to be the chief mourner of the deceased.
