Brigadier General Michael Nyarwa, the Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Marine Brigade, has called upon newly passed-out marines to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism as they embark on their national service journey.

Presiding over the pass-out ceremony at the Marine Training School in Kalangalo, Wakiso District, Brig Gen Nyarwa urged the officers to honour their uniform and serve the country with character and dedication.

“You arrived as trainees, you leave as mariners  disciplined, skilled, and ready to serve. Skill without character is a hollow vessel. Uphold the highest standards of self-discipline and ethical conduct. Respect your uniform, your comrades, and the communities you will serve.” Brig Gen Nyarwa said

The ceremony marked the successful completion of a four-month Marine Basic Induction Course, which began on June 30, 2025, and saw 69 new marines graduate after undergoing rigorous training.

The training covered a wide range of modules including navigation, communication, small boat handling, tactics, intelligence, first aid, physical fitness, combat water survival, and maritime law , all aimed at building a disciplined and technically capable marine force.

Brig Gen Nyarwa hailed the Commandant, Chief Instructor, and the entire training staff for their commitment to producing a competent and professional force capable of safeguarding Uganda’s waters. He described the transformation of the trainees into mariners as a testament to resilience, teamwork, and determination.

Col David Kararira, the Commandant of the Marine Training School, congratulated the graduates for their perseverance and encouraged them to remain disciplined as they begin their professional careers.

“Finishing this course is a new beginning. Opportunities await those who remain disciplined, focused, and ambitious.” Col Kararira told the graduates.

He also praised the Marine Brigade Command for continuously strengthening the school’s training capacity, positioning it as a vital centre for maritime operations and security.

The colourful pass-out event was attended by senior and junior UPDF officers, parents, guardians, community leaders, and residents, who witnessed the display of drills and demonstrations by the new marines .
