Brig Gen Busizoori Promotes Peace Through Sports in Karamoja

The Deputy Commander of the UPDF 3 Division Brig Gen Felix Busizoori urged the sports fraternity and Moroto locals to participate in sports activities that promote peace and unity to foster socio-economic transformation in Karamoja Sub-region.

Brig Gen Busizoori made the remarks as he officiated at the awarding ceremony of the friendly EID EL FITR cup finals played at Boma grounds in Moroto Municipality.

“I urge you to embrace peace and foster unity as a precursor for development,” remarked Brig Gen Busizoori.

He noted that UPDF shall continue supporting sports activities and other Social Corporate Responsibilities (SCR) as a way of promoting the long-term strategic relationship with her ‘best allies’, who are the people.

The District Sports Officer for Moroto Mr. Anying Nelson, thanked the UPDF for supporting sports activities in the district and the entire Karamoja Sub-region.

He appealed to every able-bodied and talented persons to get involved in sports and games, adding that through efficient sports administration, disciplined players can be scouted from grassroots to national levels.

On his part, Imam Wahab Abduhaman Suleiman Ssebanenya Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee for EID EL FITR Cup tournament thanked all teams for exhibiting discipline and completing the debut.

He revealed that 14 teams participated in the months-long tournament with UPDF’s 3 Division Green Stars winning as the army side defeated AL- WATAN with 2 goals scored by Privates Ogutu Ismail and Nadiope Faizal in the second round of the match.

The winning team, UPDF 3 Division Green Stars FC was awarded a trophy, bull and golden medals. The second runners-up, AL-WATAN FC got two goats and silver medals while the third runners-up UPDF 3 Division Shooters FCs received a cash prize of 150,000 Ugx.

The tournament cup final was graced by Mr. Lobong Albino, Chairperson Moroto District Football Association (MDFA), security officers from UPDF, UPF, UPS, ASTU and hundreds of sports lovers.
