Brigadier General Charity Bainababo, the Deputy Commandant at Special Forces Command-SFC, has recently taken a formidable stance against the practice of officers embezzling the hard-earned salaries and allowances of subordinates.
Brig. Gen Bainababo urged them to uphold their ethical obligations and refrain from indulging in corrupt activities that harm their juniors.
Speaking at the pipping ceremony held for officers from the Presidential Protection Guard (PPG) at the distinguished SFC headquarters, Brig Gen Bainababo’s words carried the weight of her authority.
She highlighted the paramount importance of ethical conduct and the dire consequences that corruption brings forth. The General’s address was a forceful reminder that officers in positions of authority must set a positive example, not just through tactical prowess, but also through virtuous behavior.
She drew attention to the ripple effect that a single act of corruption can cause the soldier who goes hungry due to a commander’s theft of his wages, leading to that soldier’s child attending school with the stigma of ill-gotten money.
Corruption, she emphasized, is a pernicious cancer that affects not only the individuals involved but also tarnishes the reputation of the entire institution.
The Deputy Commandant shed light on the significant responsibility that commanders bear. She underscored that these leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the moral fabric of their units and, by extension, the entire military. Taking a firm stance, she pressed the need for commanders to take the lead in eradicating corruption and restoring the honor and integrity that the military stands for.
The message also carried a poignant caution against indulging in lavish lifestyles that exceed one’s legitimate means. Brig Gen Bainababo astutely pointed out that the allure of extravagance often becomes a breeding ground for financial impropriety. Her words were a powerful reminder that responsible conduct must extend beyond the battlefield to financial matters.
