Bobi Wine Reschedules HQ Office Opening to Avoid Security Hassles
The National Unity Platform (NUP), has called off the launch of their new party headquarters following a directive from the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Kawempe, Yasin Ndidde.
The party leadership has instead shifted the event from Thursday to Friday to avoid unnecessary security harassment for their guests.
The opposition party leadership led by principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine announced the postponement in Kamwokya. He explained that they didn’t want to put their visitors at risk, and they believed the event could proceed peacefully the next day.
He criticized the government for stopping their internal party activity, citing the presence of VIPs in the area.
BobI Wine clarified that their decision to postpone was driven by concern for their guests’ safety, not fear of security. He also expressed skepticism about the government’s future excuses for interference. He warned that if the security forces continued disrupting their activities based on illegal orders, they would respond collectively as a team.
He also pointed out that, contrary to security claims, they do not require police permission to hold public functions under the Public Order Management Act.
This morning, security forces including the police and military deployed and blocked access to the new NUP offices in Makerere, Kivule on Bombo Road, where they intended to hold the launch.
Prior to this , the RCC had asked the opposition party leadership led by principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine as President Yoweri Museveni was scheduled to attend an event in the same area. Ndiidde recommended the party delay thethe function, but NUP initially insisted on proceeding.
