Bobi Wine Launches Nationwide Membership Registration

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has launched a countrywide membership registration drive aimed at enrolling supporters into the party’s national register.

The launch took place during a training session for NUP registrars and focal persons at the party headquarters in Makerere, Kavule. Kyagulanyi provided materials to be used by the registrars during the exercise.

Speaking at the event, Kyagulanyi emphasized the importance of organization in the face of current political challenges, stating that the future belongs to those who are well-organized. He highlighted the need for NUP to be prepared and organized to confront what he termed as tyranny, referring to challenges from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

On the sidelines, Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition, assured journalists that their registration exercise is lawful and warned security personnel against interfering with their registrars. He urged NUP supporters to resist intimidation and actively participate in the registration process.

David Lewis Rubongoya, the party secretary-general, explained that the ongoing campaign aligns with the Kunga Campaign initiated in 2022 to spread the party’s message of change across the country. He disclosed that registrars from all districts and constituencies are participating, and NUP membership cards will be available for a nominal fee of 1000 shillings.

Kyagulanyi announced plans for a second phase of countrywide tours to strengthen grassroots mobilization and build party structures. This initiative follows a similar effort in September last year, which faced setbacks after police banned the tours due to alleged breaches of guidelines, including statements deemed inflammatory towards the government.
