National Unity Platform (NUP) whose symbol is an umbrella says it will soon reveal its leaders in the various positions.

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, best known as Bobi Wine, has been unveiled as the new president of National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kamwokya, a city suburb.

The development comes less than six months ahead of the 2021 general elections, for which the musician-turned-politician has made his intentions clear. He wants to challenge President Yoweri Museveni, who will also seek to retain Uganda’s top job in 2021.

The symbol for the new party, which is registered by the Electoral Commission, is an umbrella. And the MP is the party’s flagbearer for next year’s presidential elections.

The Kyadondo East legislator, who burst onto the political scene in mid-2017, has been leading People Power, which has helped mould his extended political ambitions on the Opposition side of government.

During the unveiling of Kyagulanyi as the new NUP leader on Wednesday, supporters danced and chanted songs as they held up red-and-white umbrellas in celebration of their new political chapter.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Uganda will conduct ‘scientific’ elections come 2021. For now, the political fever is ever-rising.

From available information, the party was launched in 2005.
