In a concerted effort to preserve the natural beauty of Uganda and promote sustainable tourism practices, Miss Tourism Uganda launched the “Let the Pearl Shine Campaign” under the theme “Keep it Clean, Keep it Green.” This initiative, spearheaded by Ambassador Lucky Zakia, aims to instill a sense of responsibility among citizens to maintain cleanliness in the environment.

The campaign has made significant progress in various regions of Uganda, including Ankole, Bunyoro, Northern Uganda, Buganda, to mention but a few.

In collaboration with community members and local authorities, clean-up activities have been carried out in streets, markets, and tourism attractions. The recent Kampala edition of the campaign, held on 13th April, saw a collective effort to clean up the city and promote sustainable tourism.

Herbert Byaruhanga, the President of the Confederation of Uganda Tourism Association, emphasizes the importance of continued support for the initiative. He calls upon leaders in the tourism sector to consider designating one day every month for voluntary “Keep Uganda Clean” activities. By engaging government officials and citizens in these efforts, Uganda can enhance its cleanliness and attractiveness as a tourist destination.

The benefits of maintaining a clean environment are vast for tourism in Uganda. A pristine landscape not only attracts visitors but also supports the livelihoods of local communities. As tourism is a vital economic sector for the country, initiatives like the “Let the Pearl Shine Campaign” play a crucial role in promoting environmental conservation and responsible tourism practices.

Through collective action and a shared commitment to preserving Uganda’s natural beauty, the campaign aims to create a sustainable future for tourism in the country. Let us unite in our efforts to keep Uganda clean and showcase the splendor of the Pearl of Africa to the world. Together, we can make a difference!
