The Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF and police killed three armed warriors and recovered one firearm in Katakwi district.

The warriors were gunned down in Osiomit village in Olilim parish Palam sub-county Thursday afternoon.

Micheal Longole, the Karamoja Regional Police spokesperson, says that the rustlers had crossed to Palam where they raided three cows but they were intercepted by the security forces.

He says security recovered one submachine gun from the rustlers with 25 rounds of ammunition.

“We had got the information about the warriors crossing to Palam so our ASTU personnel in Kodike detaches and UPDF soldiers were alerted. Our troops blocked them by laying an ambush on the possible routes around Kaigwe village, Iriiri Subcounty in Napak District. They came and they were killed,” he said.

Longole said the recovery of the firearm and 25 live ammunition brings to 547, the number of guns and 3677 rounds of ammunition recovered by the joint security forces since the onset of the disarmament operations in Karamoja on July, 7th, 2021.

Brig. Joseph Balikudembe the 3rd UPDF Division Commander has warned the rustlers to stop raids saying the security forces were ready to deal with them. Moses Omagor, a resident of Palam village, says that the rustlers found the animals tied in a grazing area and untied them to drive them away.
