The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has encouraged Christians not to fear but to remain steadfast in their journey of faith, embracing sacrifice, repentance, and spiritual growth.
Speaking during his pastoral visit to the Namugongo Anglican Shrine on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in preparation for the annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that no matter how hopeless a situation may appear, God possesses the power to transform lives.
Reflecting on the enduring legacy of the Uganda Martyrs, the Archbishop remarked, “Their executors thought it was the end, but the end of the rope is not the end of hope. God is still working. He remains our God, the King of Kings, the Master of Masters.”
He called upon believers to seek spiritual renewal, reconciliation, and revival, stating that true growth in faith demands unwavering commitment, acts of kindness, and a willingness to live sacrificially.
Addressing a section of Anglican pilgrims gathered at the shrine, he urged them, “Never lose hope. Never give in to those who want you to abandon your faith. Never deny your faith, because that is not the end of the story. Your suffering is not the end. The end of the rope is not the end of hope! We are here to be encouraged by the martyrs. This is a journey of repentance, a journey of faith, a journey of sacrifice. We are learning and growing. And when all is done, you can be revived, renewed, filled, rebuilt, recommitted, and resuscitated.”
The Archbishop was accompanied by the Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum, Chairperson of the Martyrs’ Day Organizing Committee, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng.
While delivering his sermon to the congregation at the Namugongo Anglican Shrine in anticipation of the Martyrs’ Day celebration on June 3, 2025, Archbishop Kaziimba drew from Scripture, saying, “Hebrews 12 reminds us that we have a great crowd of witnesses—those who suffered, those who went through hard times, those whose tormentors wanted to destroy them completely. But to God be the glory! What was meant for evil has today become a testimony. Look at the crowds gathered here—this is a message: you cannot wipe away what God has created. You cannot fight God. However hard you try, your efforts are all in vain.”
The delegation also toured the Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Museum and reviewed the final preparations for the upcoming June 3rd celebration.
Archbishop Kaziimba extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Northern Cluster team for their outstanding organization and unwavering dedication in ensuring a meaningful and spiritually uplifting celebration.
