Anti Corruption Court Prohibits Live Coverage of Minister Nandutu Trial

The Anti-Corruption Court Judge Jane Kajuga Okuo has directed the media not to cover live proceedings or take pictures of the State Minister for Karamoja Affair Agnes Nandutu.

This follows a petition by the State Attorney David Bisamunyu, for the court to regulate media coverage to protect witnesses and provide a balanced right to information.

The judge ruled that journalists can only have access to audio and report what they have listened to. He agreed with the State that witnesses can be intimidated.

Nandutu was charged with dealing with suspect property in connection to the Karamoja iron sheets saga. The Bududa District Woman MP was instantly committed to the High Court shortly after she took a plea.

Prosecution states that during the month of June 2022 at the office of the Prime Minister’s Stores in Namanve and Kkola cell Bulwanyi Parish Mukono district, the minister dealt with 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets of guage 28 by receiving and holding the said government property.

According to the prosecution, Nandutu had reason to believe the iron sheets were acquired as a result of loss of public property an offense under section 10 of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2000 as amended.

Prosecution states that the iron sheets were bought but allegedly ended up in the wrong hands of third parties including Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Gorreti Kitutu Kimono and her Personal Assistant Joshua Abaho among others.
