Angry Mob Kills Suspected Thief in Mbarara

Police have warned the public against acts of mob justice after a suspected thief was lynched in Ndaija Parish, Ndaija Sub-county, Mbarara City.

The deceased suspect is Yamukama Ismail, a mechanic from Mbarara City. His body was discovered on the morning of September 4th, 2024,  after police in the area received a report of an unidentified body found by the roadside in Ndaija Trading Centre.

According to Kituuma Rusoke, the Uganda police spokesman, the body showed signs of severe beatings with sticks and deep stab wounds to the back. Investigators believe Yamukama’s body was dragged for approximately 130 meters along the tarmac road.

Kituuma says shortly after police recovered the body, a woman identified the deceased as her husband, Yamukama Ismail, a resident of Tsenye Sale, Kakoba Ward, in Mbarara City’s South Division.

According to Kituuma preliminary investigations suggest Yamukama, along with others, had traveled from Mbarara to Rwambara with the intention of stealing, leading to the fatal encounter.

He has urged community members to avoid taking the law into their own hands when apprehending suspects.

“We must refrain from mob justice,” Kituuma stressed
