American Citizen Arrested in Masindi for Overstaying Visa
Police in Masindi are investigating circumstances under which an American citizen was arrested for illegally staying at protected areas of the Field Artillery Division.
The suspect identified as Wilder Daniel Robert, 33, from Massachusetts, USA, was arrested last week in Kikonyo village, Kyema Parish, Masindi Municipality, Masindi district.
Wilder, identified by his Passport No AO3684874, was found to have overstayed his visa, which expired on March 4, 2024, thus remaining in Uganda illegally for 65 days. He was detained alongside his girlfriend, Nyakaisiki Sharon.
Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson says Wilder was handed over to immigration authorities.
“The Immigration Department is committed to upholding Uganda’s immigration laws and ensuring the removal of individuals who are present in the country unlawfully, thereby safeguarding the integrity of our borders.” said Enanga
He further says police are currently investigating whether Mr. Robert’s presence within the protected areas posed any genuine public safety concerns to local communities.
He has called on foreigners to adhere to visa regulations and respect the laws of the host country when visiting or residing abroad.
