Acquire Skills to Correctly Diagnose Societal Challenges – President Tells Leaders
President Yoweri Museveni has urged leaders at all levels to equip themselves with skills that will help them in diagnosing society’s challenges correctly.
“It is crucial that you, leaders know what you are doing because if you don’t know, you will bring a case to yourselves. Leadership is not like a cold that you catch leadership skills. You have to prepare yourself,” he said.
The President made the remarks in a meeting with LC5 Chairpersons, District Speakers and Sub-County representatives from all over the country at State House, Entebbe.
The district leaders who had undergone a one-week training at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi District were taken through leadership transformation, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Programme and Local Government financing, among others.
Mr. Museveni informed the meeting about the two main lines through which society changes namely; education and wealth creation adding that these two lines eventually lead to job creation for the population. He called on the leaders to use the available means of communication such as FM radio stations to sensitize the people and share with them information, especially on wealth creation, to fight household poverty.
President Museveni reminded them of the four main principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), namely Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-Economic Transformation and Democracy, among others.
He told the leaders to always use politics to serve the people and reminded them that NRM is a Party whose politics is based on interest as opposed to identity. He asked the leaders to educate the masses on the adverse effects of bad human settlement practices that lead to land fragmentation instead of consolidating land holdings and only divide out what comes out of land holdings.
State Minister for Local Government, Jennifer Namuyangu thanked President Museveni for supporting leaders with skills and tools. She noted that these would go a long way to help them improve service delivery in their communities in exciting government programs.
