Accident Claims Lives of Former MP Aspirant and Local Leader in Luuka
Police have revealed that the tragic accident on Thursday morning claimed the lives of a former MP aspirant and LC Chairman.
The deceased have been identified as Gladys Aliyinza, a former aspirant for the Luuka woman Member of Parliament, and Yusufu Biita, the Vice Chairman of Kirimwa Parish LC II.
The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on the Kamuli-Kaliro road near Nawansega cell, Nawansega Ward, Bukova Town Council, in Luuka District.
According to ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Spokesperson for Busoga North, Aliyinza, 34, a resident of Lambala village, Irongo Parish, Irongo Sub County, and Biita, a resident of Kirimwa, Bukooma Sub County, were traveling in a silver-grey Isuzu double cabin (Reg. No. UG4654C) when their vehicle collided head-on with a sugarcane-loaded lorry (Reg. No. UAU 073G). The crash took place on a slight bend, a factor that might have contributed to the accident, alongside the likely cause of excessive speed.
He explains that initial reports indicate that the lorry, traveling from Kaliro, was descending when it collided with the ascending Isuzu from the opposite direction. The force of the impact caused the lorry to overturn several times.
Biita died instantly at the scene, while attempts to save Aliyinza were futile as she succumbed to her injuries en route to Musana Hospital in Kaliro District. Biita’s body was taken to Kiyunga Health Centre IV for a postmortem, while Aliyinza’s body is currently at Musana Community Hospital.
Kasadha states that both drivers involved in the collision are currently on the run, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend them. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
