Museveni, Tshisekedi Launch Road Projects to Link Uganda and DRC

​​President Yoweri Museveni and his DR Congo counterpart Felix Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo have commissioned a road infrastructure connectivity project covering the Mpondwe/Kasindi-Beni Road (80km); the Bunagana-Rutshuru-Goma road (89km and the Beni-Butembo Axis (54km).

Mr Museveni who said that the people of Uganda and DRC have been interconnected since time immemorial explained that these projects will cause tremendous social-economic transformation of the lives of the people in the two countries.

“I thank H.E Tshisekedi for bringing Congo into the East African Community and for honoring my invitation to this ceremony,” President Museveni said.

The roads to be built are Nebbi-Goli Mahagi-Bunia (190kms), Bunia-Bogoro-Kasenyi (55km) and Rwebisengo-Budiba-Buguma-Nyiyapandam, including Budiaba Bridge across River Semuliki (49km).Speaking at the launch of the projects, Mr Tshisekedi said the road projects will boost the DRC economy and improve trade relations between the two countries.

“I pray that we also build such relations in other areas such as security and agriculture,” he said.

During yesterday’s event, the two heads of state also commissioned Mpondwe Bridge.
