Tanzanian Truck Driver Tests Positive for COVID-19 in Uganda

Ugandan health authorities are searching for a Tanzanian Truck driver who tested positive for COVID-19.

This sample was among the results of the 1,120 people among which are 376 of those under institutional quarantine that were tested by the Uganda Virus Research Institute on Friday.

According to Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General of Health Services, the 34-year-old Tanzanian driver from Dar Salaam entered the country through Mutukula border post on Thursday. He adds that if he is traced, he will be immediately returned home.

Mwebesa says the positive case doesn’t add to the current number of infections in the country which still stands at 55 people.

In Tanzania, however, the infections are spiraling. On Friday, they recorded 53 new cases bringing their total number of patients to 147, while Uganda hasn’t yet recorded any death.

However, earlier on Friday, the Ministry of Health had initially reported that the case that tested positive had been picked from the community, something that Mwebesa says was have done in error.
