What to Expect as President Museveni Addresses The Nation Again
President Yoweri Museveni will once again address the nation this evening at 8 pm to clarify some issues that some Ugandans may not have understood understand.
During his speech last evening in which he outlined a number of measures to stem the spread of coronavirus, Mr Museveni had said that the Prime Minister would clarify some issues in his address.
Some of the issues that the president is expected to clarify include the distribution of food to needy Ugandans, the use of private cars among other things.
Last night, Mr Museveni said that the government would start distributing food to Ugandans that need it most but was quick to add that it will be after properly identifying the individuals.
“The Government anti-Corona-virus actions of stopping public transport and other measures have put the drivers and other people out of work. Besides, many of them live hand to mouth ─ the daily bread. Without those activities, especially in towns, such people may not be able to buy food. The Government, after properly identifying these people will distribute food to them in the form of akahuunga (maize flour), beans, powder milk, sugar, salt, etc,” Mr Museveni said on Monday evening.
Mr Museveni is also expected to address the issue of water, electricity bills and bank loans as he promised to talk to people in the banking sector about a possible suspension of the loan repayment.
“We are going to discuss with Banks, electricity companies and water companies in connection with the loans and bills, many people have with these units. It is not correct to disconnect water or electricity on account of non-payment during this time of shutdown or to seize properties on account of the non-payment of loans,” said Mr Museveni in his speech.
Many people have also been wondering whether private cars can be used in some circumstances such as emergencies or if one person is in a car.
