Parliament honours Human Rights Commission chair Med Kaggwa
Parliament led by the Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga has honoured the late Hon Med Kaggwa who collapsed and died on his way to work on Wednesday, 20 November 2019.
Kadaga said that Kaggwa served Uganda in distinguished capacities as Member of Parliament representing Kawempe South and at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
He also served as minister for the Presidency.
“At the Uganda Human Rights Commission, he has been a big advocate for respect of human rights as seen by his timely presentation of the annual commission reports to Parliament,“ Kadaga said.
The Speaker added that he was also Special Rapporteur on Prisons and Conditions of Detention of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and a Commissioner of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission.
“On my own behalf and that of the Parliamentary Commission, I convey our sincere condolences to the family of the late Hon Kaggwa, relatives, friends and the country at large on this loss, “she added.
The House observed a moment of silence in his honour. He will be buried on Thursday, 21 November 2019 in Mpigi district.
