Uganda and Norway have concluded a successful Bilateral Consultation, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and deepening diplomatic ties.

The meeting, co-chaired by Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mulimba John and Norway’s Minister for International Cooperation, Mr. Åsmund Aukrust , focused on expanding trade and investment, promoting regional peace and security and enhancing multilateral collaboration.

Uganda acknowledged Norway’s longstanding support in key sectors such as education, renewable energy, and women’s empowerment. Both sides, however, recognized the need to significantly grow bilateral trade, with current figures showing Uganda’s exports to Norway at $1 million and imports at approximately $6 million in 2024.

Discussions also highlighted:
✔️Uganda’s role in regional peacebuilding and its progressive refugee policy.
✔️The importance of inclusive dialogue in conflict resolution.
✔️The need for reforms within the United Nations to better address global challenges.

Looking ahead, both countries agreed to convene a Norway–Uganda Trade and Investment Summit before the end of 2027 to unlock new opportunities, attract investment and strengthen economic ties.

This engagement marks another step forward in fostering a mutually beneficial partnership between Uganda and Norway.
