Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Copenhagen, accredited to the Nordic and Baltic States, successfully yesterday hosted the Uganda–Danish/Nordic Tourism Symposium at the Scandic Spectrum Hotel.
Held under the theme “Building Sustainable Tourism Partnerships and Linkages,” the symposium convened tourism stakeholders, investors, government representatives, and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) from Uganda and across the Nordic region. The event provided a strategic platform to explore partnerships, promote investment, and strengthen Uganda’s positioning as a premier sustainable tourism destination.
The symposium was officiated by H.E. Amb. Margaret M. Otteskov, who emphasized Uganda’s commitment to eco-tourism, conservation, and responsible travel. She encouraged Nordic partners to actively market Uganda, highlighting its unique combination of biodiversity, cultural heritage and authentic visitor experiences. The Ambassador also reaffirmed that Uganda offers a secure and favorable environment for tourism and investment, supported by ongoing improvements in infrastructure and connectivity.

Participants highlighted Uganda’s strong tourism potential, citing its renowned wildlife, including mountain gorillas, diverse national parks and vibrant cultural landscapes. Discussions also focused on investment opportunities in eco-tourism, hospitality and tourism-support infrastructure, as well as the importance of community-based tourism models that promote sustainability and inclusive growth.
The symposium showcased innovative tourism products and cultural exchange initiatives designed to enhance visitor experiences while preserving the environment. It also facilitated meaningful dialogue on joint marketing strategies and long-term collaboration between Ugandan and Nordic tourism operators.
Key outcomes included strengthened partnerships, increased investor interest, and renewed commitment to jointly promote Uganda in the Nordic market. The event concluded with Business-to-Business engagements and a cultural evening celebrating Uganda’s rich heritage.
