Police in Wakiso District have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old man in Kasangati Town Council.

According to police, the suspect identified as Masaba John is currently being held at Mattuga Police Station following the death of Kiyinji Vincent, a resident of  Kiti B Cell village.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 23, 2026 at around 1:00am at a rented residence in Kiti B Cell.

Racheal Kawala , the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect had previously been in a relationship with Nanfuka Joan, who later separated from him and began dating the deceased.

Kawala says that on the night of the incident, the suspect allegedly went to Nanfuka’s residence knowing that Kiyinji was spending the night there.

It is reported that when the suspect knocked on the door, the deceased opened it, which triggered a confrontation between the two men.

Investigators say the argument quickly escalated into a violent fight during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased with a knife.

The victim sustained fatal injuries and died shortly after the attack.

Police have since arrested the suspect who remains in custody as investigations into the murder continue.

Kawala says inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, Police in Katwe are investigating a tragic fire incident that claimed the life of a two-year-old child.

According to Kawala, the incident occurred in Katenga Zone, Chibuli Parish in Makindye Division. She has identified the deceased as Tumusiime Ibra, a two-year-old boy who died in the house fire.

Police at Katwe Police Station say preliminary findings indicate that at the time the fire broke out, the child’s mother, identified as Tumuhaise, was not inside the house.

Investigators say the mother had reportedly stepped out to do laundry when the fire started.

The circumstances surrounding the fire remain unclear. However, eye witnesses say that prior to the occurance an electrician was spotted working on an electric pole nearby that could have sparked the fire. They allege that he ran away after sparks of fire started to emanate from the pole and a fire started moments after.

Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the blaze and the events that led to the child’s death.

Police say more details will be released as investigations progress.
